Womble Bond Dickinson Partners Doug Butler and Jeff Simpson both presented at the 2023 Western Region Captive Insurance Conference. The annual conference brings together the captive insurance associations of Arizona, Missouri, Nevada and Utah.
Butler discussed “The Importance of Captive Actuarial Funding Analysis”. This session took a close look at the components of an independent actuary’s funding analysis to price captive insurance premiums. The panel also reviewed insights from regulators, service providers and owners on how to use the information provided in an actuary funding analysis to improve the efficiency and functionality of a captive program.
Steve Kinion of the Oklahoma Insurance Department, Trenton Lipka of Pinnacle Actuarial Resources, and Tom Massey of Nelnet Insurance Services joined Butler in the presentation.
Simpson spoke on “Cell Captive Diversity”. His presentation discussed how a cell captive insurance company may be an attractive option in a rapidly changing insurance market. The session also addressed the pros and cons of incorporated and unincorporated cells, as well as examining some industry-specific examples of how a cell structure may work.
He was joined in the presentation by Renea Louie, COO of Pro Group Captive Management Services, and Joe Marcantel, owner of Talisman Insurance Company.
The Western Region Captive Insurance Conference took place June 12-14 in St. Louis.
