The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Tobacco Products is working to enact several landmark regulations that would establish product standards for combustible tobacco products sold in the United States. For combustible cigarettes, these product standards would prohibit the use of menthol as a characterizing flavor and would substantially reduce nicotine content. The agency also seeks to eliminate characterizing flavors from cigars. Womble Bond Dickinson attorney Mark Vaders will join Dr. Amirala S. Pasha (Mayo Clinic) and Stacey Gagosian (Truth Initiative) at the Food and Drug Law Institute’s annual Tobacco and Nicotine Products Regulation and Policy Conference on October 20, 2022, to discuss the potential merits, pitfalls, and challenges that would be associated with putting these rules into practice.
Mark will also be teaching a session on Product Compliance as part of FDLI’s Introduction to Tobacco Law and Regulation course on October 18, 2022.
