Patrick is a Partner in the Charlotte office whose practice focuses on representing (1) businesses in complex commercial disputes before state and federal courts in the US, as well as international arbitrations; and (2) employers with disputes involving trade secrets, breaches of restrictive covenants, and Title VII, FMLA, and REDA claims. Patrick also counsels the furniture industry on a variety of regulatory issues, with particular focus on new CPSC and EPA developments.

- Obtained judgment on the pleadings on all claims, affirmed by the Supreme Court of North Carolina, on behalf of public hospital authority in putative antitrust class action.
- Represented release-of-information vendor and hospital system in class action lawsuit alleging violation of medical record copying fees statutes.
- Representing member-manager and officer of travel nurse staffing company in dispute with other member-managers.
Manufacturing
- Defended food service product manufacturer in dispute with Swiss company regarding intellectual property and license in international commercial arbitration in Zurich administered by the Swiss Chambers’ Arbitration Institution.
- Defending aircraft engine manufacturer in product liability disputes arising from fatal crashes.
- Defended medical device manufacturer in pelvic mesh multidistrict litigation.
Constitutional and Governmental Law
- Defending governmental entities in cases alleging violations of the Constitution and North Carolina State Constitution arising from COVID proclamations and other legislation.
- Obtained summary judgment and successfully argued in Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of Sheriff’s Office in Fourth Amendment excessive force case. Cybernet, LLC v. David, 954 F.3d 162 (4th Cir. 2020).
Pro Bono
- Obtained post-conviction release of individual who was imprisoned for 15 years after being wrongfully convicted of attempted murder and sentenced to life.
- Reunited Guatemalan father with wrongfully removed son. Pineda Elias v. Leon Arevalo, 2016 WL 8738275 (M.D.N.C. Aug. 2, 2016).
- Obtained 5-year reduction of 15-year sentence on behalf of individual who was improperly convicted of mutually exclusive offenses.
- Obtain protective orders on behalf of victims of domestic violence.
