Nicky Strong, WBD UK Consultant, and Kurt Weaver, WBD US Partner, have presented at the Food Safety Americas conference on the legal requirements for food labelling and responsibility for nutritional content and allergens.
Food Safety Americas was hosted by leading brand and consumer protection organisation BRCGS in San Diego this week (21-22 May). The conference focused on the effect of continuing environmental changes and economic pressures on the production of food; the resource challenges which are leading to risks such as contamination, adulteration and foodborne illnesses; and producers' need for trustworthy supply chain management along with rapid and effective testing methods.
Nicky and Kurt's presentation detailed key similarities and differences in food labelling requirements on both sides of the Atlantic, covering nutritional content and allergens, regulatory enforcement and consumer impact.
Nicky commented:
"It was a great pleasure to speak at this conference in San Diego, especially working with my US colleague on the differences and complexities within food labelling in our respective countries. We also covered the UK food labelling legislation post-Brexit and its impact on trade in light of the current US Administration's efforts to deregulate. It was a very interesting conference indeed and thoroughly enjoyable to be a part of."
