Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD) is very proud to see The Newcastle Helix, a £350m development upon which the firm advised Newcastle City Council, featured as a case study in The British Property Federation's latest report Unlocking Growth Through Partnership. The report delves into the power of collaboration, leveraging energy, skills and knowledge across the public and private sectors, to get the best from development and regeneration opportunities. As a firm working with many public and private sector organisations, we see an increasing number of collaborations and partnerships happening across sectors with a shared ambition to create developments with sustainability, quality of space and innovation at the forefront. WBD has advised on many joint ventures where we see public and private sector bodies working together to create jobs, boost investment and revitalise cities, a trend expected to continue and gain momentum.
Citing the impressive Newcastle Helix is brilliant news for our city, although not at all surprising. Created through a partnership between Newcastle City Council, Newcastle University and Legal and General, the Helix stands out as a 24-acre innovation hub and collaborative ecosystem. With Womble Bond Dickinson now based here, we're proud to also call it our home.
WBD was one of the first law firms to announce a pledge to net zero by 2030 and therefore environmental considerations were at the core of our relocation plans. As a BREEAM Excellent building powered by the District Energy Centre, a pioneering new venture to develop district energy schemes across the city, The Spark, at the Helix, became the obvious choice to create a workplace fit for the future, in the centre of an inspiring new community of businesses. Energy transition and decarbonisation are areas that our firm champions, and specialises in, and our overall design concept was centred around limiting our office’s ecological impact, while providing our people with a collaborative and dynamic workplace.
