Law firm Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD) has advised long-standing client RES, the world’s largest independent renewable energy company, on the sale of Aberarder Wind Farm to SSE Renewables.
The 12-turbine project located in Strathnairn, near Inverness in the Scottish Highlands, has a consented capacity of 49.9 MW. When constructed the wind farm will contribute to a more secure and diverse energy supply for Scotland and the UK.
The WBD team advising RES was led by energy partner Sebastian Briggs and managing associates Ronan Lowney and Luke Andruszewski. The firm has worked on a number of strategic projects with RES over the years including the sale of its Roaring Hill Energy Storage Project to TagEnergy as well as the sale of Craiggore Wind Farm in 2019, RES' first UK subsidy-free wind farm project.
Sebastian Briggs of WBD commented:
"RES has been at the forefront of the energy industry for more than 40 years with an impressive renewable energy portfolio across the UK and worldwide. It has been a pleasure working with them once again on this exciting development for the Aberarder Wind Farm.
"WBD's in depth knowledge of the energy sector, coupled with our strong corporate credentials, meant we were able to help deliver a great result for the parties and the renewables sector."
Lucy Whitford, UK&I Managing Director, RES, commented:
“RES is delighted to announce the sale of Aberarder Wind Farm, marking another milestone in our long and proud history of developing outstanding renewable energy projects in the Scottish Highlands.
“RES is investing significantly in our wind, solar, green hydrogen and energy storage development portfolio across the UK and Ireland. The sale of Aberarder further strengthens our position as a leading investor in renewable energy, the technologies that will reduce energy costs for consumers, increase our energy security and help us to tackle climate change.
"We're grateful to Sebastian and the whole WBD team for their continued support, we value their legal expertise and their understanding of the clean energy sector is first class."
WBD's energy team has been immersed in the energy and natural resources sectors for decades, giving it great depth of experience across the various different forms of energy and power.
